Roads Committee Update
Roads Grant program available to lot owners
Over past several months, the primary focus of the Roads Committee has been to develop a grant program to provide some financial assistance to lot owners with new road construction where no road currently exists, or is not suitable for obtaining building permits. This process involved defining award amounts, eligibility, design and construction requirements, along with the application, grant award and payment components of the program.
During the January Board of Directors meeting a draft of this program was presented and approved. Since then, the committee has been working on developing all of the program’s supporting forms and documents. These are expected to be completed in the next couple of weeks, at which time a communication to the membership will be sent out indicating such. At that time, the program information and grant application forms will be available to access on SPOA’s website.
In the spring of 2025, SPOA road maintenance is planned to start June 1, based on weather and pricing acquired from available grader operators. This will be planned only for Non-County maintained roads. It will be for sections of roads which are currently constructed and not for “2-track” roads or trails. No aggregate is planned to be added to the roads at this time but will be considered on a case-by-case basis if needed, due to a washout. Clearance of culvert inlets and outlets will also be evaluated at this time.

The intent of the database was to document and catalogue current conditions of roads within the select subdivisions on the south and east portion of the SPOA properties for the purpose of understanding presence and quality of roads and drainage to aid in prioritizing future maintenance and construction.
