Noxious Weeds
Weeds on your property are not just your problem; they negatively affect your neighbors and surrounding public lands.
Common Areas
To maintain the health of our community and comply with Routt County regulations, SPOA treats noxious weeds in all common areas twice annually — once in the spring and again in the fall. This work is performed by Big Sage Ecological Solutions, a professional ecological management company.
Routt County Weed Enforcement
Per The Colorado Noxious Weed Act §§ 35-5.5-101 - 119, C.R.S. Noxious weeds are required by law to be managed due to the severe impact they can have on agriculture, property values, recreation and the degradation to native plant communities, ecosystems, and wildlife. Failure to do so can result in penalties.
Per Senate Bill 24-031 the Board of County Commissioners may allow the assessment and collection of fines for violations of local law enacted for the enforcement of noxious weed control. Furthermore, it creates civil infractions for violations and creates a civil penalty for violations of no less than $500 and no more than $1,000.
The key is diligent effort and not ignoring the problem. Routt County continues to treat all County Road Rights-Of-Way (ROW) which is its primary mandate under Colorado Weed Law and amounts to some 1,600+ miles of road edge comprising over 6,000 acres of ROW area. We also treat weeds in cooperation with federal, state, and local agencies to help protect our public lands.
The County expects and will require effective weed management by adjacent property owners. Weeds on your property are not just your problem; they negatively affect your neighbors and surrounding public lands. We can’t stop the spread of noxious weeds without your help.
